To support Brightpath schools, we are excited to offer professional learning workshops. Workshops are conducted online or face to face in Perth.

We have also scheduled free introduction sessions for schools starting to use Brightpath or teachers new to existing Brightpath schools in October 2021 and beginning 2022. Details can be found below as well.

Workshop Details

Introduction: Getting Started with Brightpath

Who is this for:

  • Schools planning to use Brightpath in Term 4, 2021 or start of 2022

  • Schools that have started using Brightpath but want help getting going

  • Teachers who are new to a school that is already using Brightpath.

We will introduce

  • the Brightpath writing assessment tasks and the mathematics tests

  • How to assess students’ writing using Brightpath

  • How to interpret and use the Brightpath formative and summative reports

  • How to use the software.

Introduction Brightpath Mathematics

We will explain the Brightpath formative mathematics assessments detailing project setup, access and the reports.

Interpreting Brightpath Data

This full-day Professional Learning is designed for schools who have collected two rounds of assessment data. You will need your laptop and your NAPLAN writing data.

By the end of the end of the workshop you will know how to:

  • Work across the Brightpath reports to develop a comprehensive understanding of your school performance data

  • Evaluate student growth in learning

  • Use Brightpath data to set targets

  • Interpret NAPLAN writing data in relation to the Brightpath performance descriptors and teaching points.

Brightpath Community Professional Learning - Free

More schools are starting to use Brightpath more often and there is much that we are learning from each other. From time to time we organise community PL to bring schools together to share their experiences, insights and advice.

Reflecting on our school’s approach to implementing Brightpath. Principals, Curriculum leaders and teachers weigh in about successes, failures and tips.There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. Join in and get tips and advice that will help you in your school.

Getting Started with Narrative assessment & Interpreting the Reports

This full-day Professional Learning comprises of two segments.

Part I – Assessing

Participants learn how to make an on-balance judgment, taking into account both the Authorial Choices and Conventions of writing and how to closely analyse narrative student work. Participants go offline for 45 mins. and have a go at assessing

Part II - The Reports

Participants will work across the Brightpath reports to develop a comprehensive understanding of students’ extended performance data. How to inform teaching, give feedback to students, set targets, review whole school performance and evaluate student growth in learning.

Getting Started with Narrative Assessment

This three-hour online workshop is aimed at new schools and teachers getting started with assessing narrative performances in the Brightpath Ruler.

  • Participants learn how to make an on-balance judgment, considering both the Authorial Choices and Conventions of writing and how to closely analyse student work.

  • Assessments of three scripts against the ruler.

  • Post assessment analysis and discussion, with an opportunity to ask any questions.

Brightpath Maths: Developing Whole School Approaches to Support Students

Careful examination of data can help leaders develop Whole School Approaches to teaching mathematics in order to address some areas of concern.

In this one day workshop, Dr Sandy Heldsinger will help you examine your Brightpath Mathematics data.

Then Dr Paul Swan and Narelle Rice will review how the literacies of mathematics can and do impact on students’ ability to read and comprehend mathematics word questions.

Structures will be provided to help improve the comprehension of mathematics word questions. Leaders and teachers will leave with a range of practical materials that may be implemented straight away.

Please note: Feedback from this session will be used to inform the making of video support for teachers in remote locations.

Brightpath Formative Assessment

This workshop will examine how Brightpath can be fully utilised as a formative assessment tool including:

  • how to develop a Brightpath Learning and Improvement cycle for their school

  • how they can be use Brightpath at each stage of the cycle to improve school student learning

  • effective feedback to students, strategies for including students in the assessment process

  • the use of data to inform and refine teaching

  • the collection of data to support school evaluation.

Lead Marker Certification – Persuasive

  • Participants will work in groups with Brightpath expert markers

  • The expert markers will provide detailed explanations of writing development, and how to closely analyse student writing

  • They will also help you analyse the exemplars

  • You will mark sample scripts, discuss your scores, and get further guidance.

  • Participants will work in groups with Brightpath expert markers

  • The expert markers will provide detailed explanations of writing development, and how to closely analyse student writing.
